So We're Really Doing This?!

The husband and I spent the entire month of August stalking our soon-to-be new apartment complex in Charlotte and going back and forth on if we were actually going to do this crazy move. And if we were, when we would actually leave?

We originally thought a move in October or November would be best for us, that is until an apartment with a super sexy floor plan opened up at the end of August and dropped by like $200 a month in price. We went back and forth for about a week, wondering when someone else was going to snatch it up and make the decision for us. Nobody did.

After yet another long night of discussion we decided that if we did not the take the apartment, someone else would and we soon find ourselves in a "what if?" situation. I mean, what in the hell were we really waiting for anyways?!? Sure, we told ourselves a move later in the year would be better for us, but at the end of the day the timeline was completely arbitrary. There was nothing keeping us in New York. So we took the apartment. And I am not one to believe in fate, but the the very next day the rent went back up to its original price.

Of course, this meant that things were moving way faster than we initially expected and it caught many people (including us) off guard. We had hinted to friends and family that we would most likely be moving, but suddenly we were in possession of an apartment in Charlotte (and still paying rent on our place in New York) so it was time to get moving. Literally.

We contacted the landlord, hired movers, stared packing up our shit, told our friends and family what was going on and I gave notice at work ASAP. The first week of September was a complete whirlwind of boxes, phone calls and raw emotion.

In a way it was better to just quickly rip that band aid off. Sure it would have been great to have more time to pack, or to give my company more notice that I was leaving, but doing everything in such a short period of time meant that there wasn't much time to question our decision.

Instead, we were too busy focusing on how to get two humans, a cat, a snake and the rest of our belongings 700 miles away in less than a month.
